Missions
The Missions Ministry has their monthly meeting on the
3rd Sunday of each month at 4:00pm.
All members of the Southwest Church of Christ are encouraged to attend and be involved
in this outreach ministry.
The Southwest congregation has a history of enthusiastically sharing Christ with as many people as possible. Outreach efforts begin at home, here in Amarillo, and currently extend to several countries of the world. Local evangelistic efforts include support for the Bible Chairs at Amarillo College and at West Texas A & M University, as well as support for the Prison Ministry for both the Neal and Clements prison systems.
We are continually blessed to have brethren who have a vision for outreach and sharing God's word to the entire world. Foreign mission efforts will continue in Oaxaca, Mexico, in fellowship with Jorge (Coco) and Latisha Serrano. A long-term partnership with Ron and Moya Bainbridge in Albany, Australia, continues to bear much fruit. Southwest is the sponsoring congregation for International Christian Press in Cape Town, South Africa, under the direction of Roger Dickson, and we support that printing ministry. A number of our members are directly participating in the World Bible School (WBS) correspondence and Internet Bible studies. WBS supplies and postage, as well as support for four (4) African evangelists involved in follow-up, are included in the missions budget. Robert and Rosa Reid continue to work in the mission field in Lisbon, Portugal. Beginning in the summer of 2004, we will provide partial support for Carlos and Elaine Castilho, who return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as missionaries. This work will represent a new mission endeavor for Southwest. Carlos and Elaine were both born in Sao Paulo and were baptized on the same day in the city of Bauru, Sao Paulo. Carlos and Elaine, along with their two daughters, ages 7 & 14, previously resided in Edmond, Oklahoma, where Carlos attended and graduated from Oklahoma Christian University. Carlos and Elaine have a love for the Brazilian people and a deep passion for missions.
Paula and Lynn Leverett continue to work in the Bibles for Africa campaign. This work consists of providing Bibles for African school children. We have been blessed to have members of the church such as the Leveretts who have a true heart for spreading the gospel into the entire world. There have been several fund raisers to help in this work with a goal of putting One Million Bibles in Africa. If you would like to contribute to the Bibles for Africa fund, please send your check payable to Southwest church of Christ (please mark check for Bibles for Africa) and send to:
